Music & Drama
The psalmist tells us to make a joyful noise to the Lord, to worship the Lord with gladness, and to come into his presence with singing. Northwest Presbyterian Church responds with an active performing arts ministry, including music and drama opportunities.
Music
Our Chancel Choir, under the direction of Drew McMillan and with the assistance of four section leaders, leads the congregation in song during worship. Leanne Herrmann is our organist. Choir rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:00 PM and on Sunday mornings at 10:15 AM. Ours is a warm-hearted and inclusive choir group; all who wish to join are welcome. In addition to our Chancel Choir, the Children's Choir performs periodically, lifting our hearts with joyous songs of praise. Also, we are in a cooperative arrangement with the Buckhead Youth Orchestra, whereby the orchestra utilizes our facilities for rehearsals and concerts, and on occasion, joins our own musicians in providing worship music.
Drama
Northwest is blessed to provide a unique drama ministry, featuring the gifts and talents of many Northwest members. Several times each year, our troupe, affectionately called the Northwest Presbythespians, glorifies God and inspires us with an outstanding theatrical presentation, often during an evening fellowship gathering and occasionally as part of the worship service. Recent productions have included an interactive dinner presentation called Uncle Phil's Diner and Pat Cook's nostalgic The Middleton Zephyr. An annual Christmas production (such as Tom Long's The Nativity in the Square in 2005) is a treasured Northwest tradition. The entire community is invited to attend these productions.
