Rev. Mary Jane Cornell Interim Pastor
Mary Jane Cornell began her service as the Interim Pastor at Northwest in May 2007. She will serve in this capacity until a permanent senior pastor is installed. Mary Jane received her B.A. from Agnes Scott College and her Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary. Before serving at Northwest, she served for 10 years as the Senior Pastor at Druid Hills Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Prior to her tenure there, she served as an associate pastor, supply pastor, and interim pastor in several churches in the Atlanta metro area and in Tallahassee, FL, as well as part-time chaplain at Agnes Scott College. She has held various positions with the Greater Atlanta Presbytery, including that of moderator. She and her husband, Gary, an urban planner, have been married for 31 years and have two sons in college.

Chick Thorington
Pastor Emeritus
Chilton F. "Chick" Thorington served as pastor of Northwest Presbyterian from its founding in 1961 through his retirement in 1995. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, he received his undergraduate degree from King College and his Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary in 1956. Early in his ministry, Chick served as assistant pastor at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta and was pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Selma, Alabama, from 1958-61. Chick has held numerous positions within the Atlanta Presbytery and received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from King College in 1966. He and his wife Billie reside in Woodstock.

Sallie McDaniel
Director of Christian Education and Children's Ministries
A West Virginia native and lifelong Presbyterian, Sallie received her B.A. from St. Andrew's Presbyterian College with a major in Religion and Christian Education and her Master's in Theological Studies from Columbia Theological Seminary. Having served First Presbyterian Church of Douglasville for 16 years as Director of Christian Education, she joined the Northwest Presbyterian staff in 2002. In addition to spending time with her two grown sons, Jeff and Chris, and two grandchildren, Austin and Laura Beth, Sallie enjoys quilting and fabric art.

Drew McMillan
Director of Music
A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Drew made his local musical debut with The Atlanta Opera in the 1995 production of Il Travatore. He also served as an apprentice for the Sarasota Opera. He started singing barbershop music in 1984 and is currently the director of the Stone Mountain Barbershop Chorus as well as the Viking Barbershop Chorus in association with the Gwinnett Young Singers. Drew teaches voice and piano and lives in Kennesaw with his wife, Susan Galanes, and daughter, Olivia.

Leanne Elmer Herrmann
Organist
Leanne Elmer Herrmann has served as our organist since 2004. She earned a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Oberlin College. She performs throughout metro Atlanta as a freelance accompanist and chamber music pianist. Leanne is currently the accompanist for the Collegium Vocale, the DeKalb Choral Guild, and the Summer Singers of Atlanta, and she is the staff pianist for Paideia School. Leanne lives in Decatur with her husband, John, and children, Daniel and Megan. The family enjoys playing soccer and other outdoor activities, including tennis, biking, hiking, and camping.

Jaime Brewington
Director of Youth Ministries
Born to an Air Force family, Jaime moved all over the country and the world as a child, having lived in Arizona, Japan, Alaska, Virginia, and Florida. She is a graduate of Asbury College in Wilmore, KY, with a B.A. in Christian Ministries. Jaime served at Wilmer United Methodist Church in Alabama for two years and then moved to Atlanta to attend Candler School of Theology at Emory University, where she earned a Master of Divinity in 2004. Jaime joined the Northwest staff in 2003.

Susie Boartfield
Office Manager
A longtime Atlanta resident, Susie began her administrative career in the former Presbyterian Church US headquarters, international mission division. There she coordinated the Christmas International House program. Susie then served for 13 years as office manager for the National Chief Operating Officer of the American Cancer Society. Susie joined the NWPC staff in April 2006. She is married to Malcolm Boartfield. Her daughter Macy is an elementary school teacher and real estate agent. Her cocker spaniel Miss Sadie is a light of her life.

Scott Mize
Administrative Assistant
Known to Northwest members as our tenor section leader, Scott assumed this additional staff duty in October 2007. Previous administrative experience includes seven years as an Origin Coordinator for Graebel Van Lines. A skilled and practiced opera singer, Scott performs regularly with Capitol City Opera and OperaSouth. He received his BA from Clayton State University and his MM from The North Carolina School of the Arts. Scott also completed a fellowship from the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute. A resident of Austell, Scott enjoys many interests, including cycling, piano, houseplants, cooking, automobiles, photography, carpentry, and reading.

Bill Winter
Administrative Assistant for Finance
Bill retired from Southern Company Services in 1996 after more than 20 years in internal auditing and transfer analysis. In 1997, he became Business Manager of Decatur First United Methodist Church. During his seven years there, Bill handled all financial accounting responsibilities, including providing the Finance Committee and Council on Ministries with detailed monthly statements, monitoring payroll, and maintaining and expanding the Endowment Fund. In 2004, Bill began working with the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross; he joined the Northwest Presbyterian staff in 2006.

James Day
Facilities Manager
James Day joined the Northwest staff in August of 2007 after 14 years of custodial work with the Fortified Hills Baptist Church in Austell, Georgia. His responsibilities include custodial work, property maintenance, and event set-up and tear-down, as well as other important support functions at the church. James lives in Smyrna with his wife, Elaine, and his son, Matthew.
