About NWPC
Mission Statement
Northwest Presbyterian Church is to be a place where:
- Jesus dwells and people are fulfilled.
- Covenants are made with God and one another.
- Attention is given to the needs of people inside and outside the church.
- Judgments are left to God.
- People feel free to unburden themselves and embark on new directions.
- Guests are expected, anticipated, and welcomed.
History
Northwest Presbyterian was founded in 1960 to serve the growing population of northwest Atlanta. The congregation first met for worship in the "Red Barn" which was located on the property at Northside Drive and West Conway Drive. Our first pastor was Dr. Chilton "Chick" Thorington, who led the congregation for 35 years until his retirement in 1995. Today, Chick is our Pastor Emeritus. Randoph "Randy" Calvo, Jr. was our second Senior Minister. He served our congregation from 1997 until April of 2007. On June 8, 2008, we welcomed our third pastor, Reverend Timothy T. Boggess to the pulpit.
Our church is governed by a Session comprised of Elders. Our Elders are elected by the congregation to three-year terms; they work closely with the pastoral and administrative staffs to carry out the work of the church. Our Session includes six teams:
- Congregational Care
- Education
- Fellowship
- Stewardship
- Witness
- Worship
- Outreach
